What does the Senior Editor / Special Projects Director do?
-
Conceptualize + Follow Through on Ideas
Generates unique and fitting ideas for columns, interviews, and brand partnerships related to issue theme, creates a list of actionable items necessary to attain that goal, and (begrudgingly) delegates those items. Within Fruitslice, I spearheaded the development of our weekly comic, as well as our Issue 4 Drag Directory, highlighting drag performers from rural areas of the United States and beyond.
-
Develop + Implement Hierarchy Structures
Reworked the entirety of the literary department hierarchy structure to account for the rapid expansion of the organization. Within this rework, I heavily researched models of mentor magazines and publications to create something that is both proven to work, but unique to our organization. This model moved us from a less sustainable senior editor model to a more sustainable staff writer and genre-based editor model in order to facilitate more brand consistency issue to issue.
-
Create + Foster Partnerships
Works within brand and issue theme to find organizations doing similar or complimentary work and creating and continuing to nurture mutually beneficial partnerships. Within this, I created the framework for outreach including email templates and brand etiquette.

-
Write + Illustrate
Duh. Within this role I write between 2 and 5 pieces per issue that bring in unique perspectives and timely/important social commentary and adhere to brand and issue theme. I write and illustrate weekly to bi-weekly comics using Adobe Creative Suite and Procreate. Genres I tend to work in are: nonfiction, memoir, creative nonfiction, social commentary, and comic/graphic novel.

Review Submissions
Accept or reject 400+ submissions per issue alongside a team of editors utilizing Submittable. Submissions are selected based on adherence to issue and brand theme, as well as edits necessary before publication, and overall quality of work.
-
Outreach + Longitudinal Development
Amending internal mechanisms of Fruitslice to account for the exponential growth between issues and ensure sustainable long-term success.
